Abstract

The NAutILES (Novel Autonomous Intelligent Localizable Endoscopic System) consortium proposes to translate its multidisciplinary scientific and technological knowledge in the fields of gastroenterology, medical imaging, signal/image processing algorithms and advanced integrated circuit design fields to develop a robust diagnostic tool which will be more sensitive, specific, and autonomous than the existing tools. The aim of the NAutILES consortium is to develop a pan-enteric diagnostic tool, an intelligent ingestible capsule, with enhanced and integrated new imaging and diagnostic capabilities suitable for gastro-intestinal diseases like Colorectal Cancer, one of the most common causes of cancer deaths worldwide: 694 000 deaths in 2012 and the second cause of cancer-related deaths in the European Union (EU 27).
